Your hosts

The guesthouse is the creation of  Astrid Ursem and Walter Verhoeve; they receive you together with their sons Tim and Rik. As they were development workers, they have run all over the world before settling down in the Auvergne. From Africa and Asia they brought their souvenirs, recipes, and artwork that you can find all over the place. That's how there is un exotic touch in an Auvergne environment.

The family lives since the beginning of 1999 at Liards. As Astrid and Walter were working in rural development, they are fully implemented in local development in their free time. During the last years, their energie, next to the guesthouse and the domaine Liards, was put into the setting up of a local money, the doume, and into the creation of a citizen grocery shop in Sauxillanges, run by volonteers.
At Liards, next to the management of the guesthouse, much time is given to the renovation of the buildings (in the beginning, there were only ruines) and to the farm (animals, big kitchengarden, big orchard).

New at Liards is the creation of an ecolieu: several persons will come and join us to live here, in an ecological way. The first ones are  Fanny and Adrien, with their daughter Daphnée, who arrived at the place in the beginning of 2018. They live in a yourt (mongolian tent). It's their private area and does not make part of the guesthouse, so please respect their privacy.

An intergeneration house is in project with five families. The ages vary between 1,5 and 66 years.
